Day One - Recap

10/3/2011

After several preliminary field trips, Day One of data collection officially started last week (Friday, 09/30/11). Went downtown with my girlfriend to see how a tandem team would work. Started at the corner of Michigan and Randolph, worked our way one block West. New survey sheet works well, it's much tighter than the old one and only takes half a page per restroom. Average time per restroom = 2 minutes, not too shabby. Surprising note: (some) women's restrooms have tampon dispensers. I think this should be added to the study. Good data collection, and observations. Decided that most research actually can be done solo, then bring in female research partner only when female restrooms exist. This should increase my time in the field and push the data collection process much faster. More to come...

When do female restrooms not exist? I would assume they are, if nothing else, more abundant than male restrooms. Is this accurate? Your girlfriend must be very nice to hang out with you in public restrooms all day.

Good for you. That is a serious change in your life, I presume. I have a kind of that in my own for now.
